I asked for Feedback!

Every workshop I run begins with an Acknowledgement of Country. And I thought, what a great opportunity to lead by example and ask for feedback on how I could improve.

I put my usual Acknowledgement of Country up on the screen and asked: How could I make this better?

After all, it’s not every day I have the actual Traditional Owners of the land in the room with me, as well as actual Elders!

In the first workshop, I received three ways I could improve:

  1. Find out the name of the Traditional Owners and add it to the slide before the workshop.

  2. Share where I am from (Wadawurrung Country).

  3. Ask where other people in the room are from.

I implemented their feedback for the second workshop and asked again: How could I make it better?

They suggested I ask how to pronounce the words before the workshop.

And they had a laugh at me!

By the third workshop, I had:

  • Found out the names of the Traditional Owners of the land.

  • Added their names to the slides.

  • Asked how to pronounce the names correctly.

  • Pronounced the names correctly.

  • Shared where I was from.

  • Asked where people in the room were from.

The difference between the first workshop’s Acknowledgement of Country and the third was huge.

And all I did was ask, implement, and ask again.

That’s Feedback Fitness in action. You don’t need to get everything perfect the first time. Be open. Ask. Listen. Learn. Improve.

Where might you ask for feedback this week?
