It’s no secret that employee engagement is slipping, and leaders are feeling the impact. Global data shows that in 2024, a significant percentage of employees were disengaged at work. That disengagement can be costly: it affects productivity, culture and retention. I was coaching someone recently who shared, ‘If I’m not learning, I’m leaving’. She then went on to describe how important feedback is to her.
Feedback is one of the most effective ways to counter disengagement. Feedback conversations lead to learning!
When feedback conversations are not happening, team members often feel unseen, unsupported, and unsure of their progress. This creates a situation where motivation fades and performance stalls. When leaders regularly offer feedback that encourages growth, the opposite occurs: team members become more engaged, more focused, and more invested in their work.
Feedback doesn’t need to be formal, and doesn’t need to be saved for performance reviews. A quick check-in, a curious question, or a timely reflection can spark progress and re-energise a team member.
If you’ve noticed:
Team members ‘quiet quitting’ (without saying a word),
A dip in energy, initiative or contribution,
Or increased difficulty in holding meaningful performance conversations…
…it may be time to reset your approach to feedback. That’s where Feedback Fitness comes in.
